About Us
When you’ve had a baby, we know it can take a while before you start to feel like you again. Regaining your sense of personal style is one way of getting your life back to some sort of normal. However, it can be tricky to find clothes you want to wear which are also easy to breastfeed in.
Stylish Mum was created to solve just this problem. Our clothes are designed by Sarah, a breastfeeding mum-of-three who has been there, done that and got the (breastfeeding-friendly) t-shirt.
We make comfortable nursing clothes which are so discreet most people won’t even realise you are breastfeeding in them. We use soft cotton fabrics, flattering cuts and unique designs to create items we think every new mum should have in their wardrobe. There are no fiddly buttons or awkward zips to deal with, just great clothes which have been tried and tested by real mums looking after their babies.
Our designs are exclusive to Stylish Mum and registered with the UK Intellectual Property Office. We listen carefully to our customers and are always looking to add new items to our range. We don't make many of each design and our focus is very much on quality and not quantity. And because our clothes are not maternity wear, they will last you for as long as you need them, whether that is weeks, months or even years.
At Stylish Mum, we’re passionate about supporting all mums who want to breastfeed every step of the way. Our aim is to make breastfeeding as simple as possible, arming mums with the confidence they need to feed their babies wherever and whenever they need to. The UK still has one of the lowest breastfeeding rates in the world so we want to take time to celebrate breastfeeding whenever we see it, one mum at a time.
My name is Sarah and after having and feeding my third child I became fed up with the options out there for breastfeeding mums. A lot of the breastfeeding specific clothes I found were mostly maternity which frustrated me, firstly because they don’t fit right, but also there is an assumption that breastfeeding is only for those early weeks. So, when I was up feeding one night I designed my own top and arranged for some samples to be made. I wore the tops and the feedback was that they were amazing and I should set up a business selling them - and so Stylish Mum was born!
I did a lot of market research with other mums and found that winter wear was the most difficult – due to the amount of material to lift up and of course wanting to stay warm. Mum’s also said that the item they missed the most was the hoodie and so this is where we started. We had a number of samples made which were tested and tweaked by mums and our colours were chosen by mums too!
Stylish Mum started selling in November 2017 and the feedback we have had has been breath-taking. Customers have really appreciated the clever design which allows for discrete feeding with no fiddy zips or buttons so easy to do one handed. Mums have also said that they are easy to feed in in a sling as material doesn’t need to come upwards. No zips or buttons also means no marks or anything sharp near babies face when cuddling, feeding or carrying in a sling. Mums have really liked the material for our hoodies and tops which is 95% cotton and 5% spandex stretch. This gives the items a soft luxurious feel. Mums have said that the shape and stretch is very flatting and forgiving to the tummy area and also means less/ no ironing !!
My ambition is to keep growing the brand and adding new items as we go along. So please so follow us on Facebook or Instagram to keep updated.
We have built close working relationships with the people who make our clothes. It is important to us that workers are paid fairly and operate under good working conditions. Our factory in China is a small mum run factory and we communicate most days - mostly I am sharing mums ideas from our community group and my lovely mum factory sends me videos and photos of the clothes being made (she is a tease!). I tend to pop them in my social media stories.
Our factory knows quality is important to you and always work to get the best quality material. Where possible we use organic material- but as we use our own patterns we can not get the certification for it and so we are careful not to use this wording. However, it is something we are working towards.
We also work with other mum run businesses in Wales and in Sheffield.
Our graphic designer, accountant and social media assistant are all freelance working mums too. All of the models are mums too ! Flexi working and supporting other mums is something close to my heart and something you will hear me talking about on our social media pages so please do give us a follow.
